United Parcel Service Inc (UPS) is seeking to set up two transport hubs in China for US$360 million and increase its staff more than fourfold in the next few years, Reuters cited Dan Brutton, president of UPS's international business division, as saying.
UPS has regarded China as an important market, and has in the last 18 months doubled the number of its employees in China to 5,300, according to the report.
UPS will invest US$125 million to build a transport hub in Shanghai with 1 million square feet of construction area. Besides, US$180 million will be spent to move its Intra-Asia air hub from the Philippines to Shenzhen Airport, according to Dan Brutton.
In line with the company's multi-hub strategy in Asia, the Shanghai hub will connect China to the UPS global air network, and the Shenzhen hub will function as a good complement to the Shanghai hub by connecting China with the rest of Asia, said sources.
