3Com Corporation a network solutions provider and competitor to Cisco and other networking equipment companies has taken a big step into the data center by being selected by Chinese search engine player, Sohu to build a next generation data center using 3Com’s H3C data center solutions.

3Com has a growing presence overseas and in particular in China. Recently a clash occurred between the US and China when the U.S. effectively blocked a takeover of 3Com by Bain Capital and Huawei Technologies. Some of 3Com's assets were deemed "strategic," meaning China should never get its hands on technology that might be counter to American interests.

The concern of ownership aside 3Com continues to do business successfully in China and in other countries including a project in Brazil. The Brazilian project connects several state government agencies and bureaus with an enhanced gigabit Ethernet network. 3Com will provide solutions with the help of its high-performance H3C enterprise networking, along with its service partner R2 connect.

Back in China, 3Com has been selected to provide China’s largest search engine Sohu a new data center network design. The new design will provide support to Sohu’s 10 billion web pages a web page update and rating system, high-performance, concurrent access to and from numerous clusters and flexible expansion in years ahead.
Sohu's new data center needed to handle ever-increasing data traffic and support an increasingly innovative business platform. The H3C solution addressed issues arising from traffic bursts with an innovative distributed buffer, one-time precise scheduling and robust quality of service (QoS) offerings. Additionally, the H3C innovative Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF®) technology further simplified the basic architecture of a traditional data center and virtualized network resources, enabling Sohu to easily accommodate future business development needs.
