Macao's total visitor spending in 2010 reaches 4.73 bln USD

Macao saw the total spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors reach 37.9 billion patacas (4.73 billion U.S. dollars) in 2010, with its per-capita spending of visitors amounting to 1,518 patacas (189.75 U.S. dollars), according to the figures released on Monday by the city's Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).

Analyzed by place of residence, per-capita spending of visitors from Chinese mainland remained the highest, reaching 2,039 patacas (254.8 U.S. dollars). Those of visitors from Japan, Southeast Asia, Oceania, Hong Kong and Taiwan, respectively amounted to 1,394 patacas (174.2 dollars), 1,319 patacas (164.8 dollars), 1,254 patacas (156.7 U.S. dollars), 811 patacas (101.3 U.S. dollars) and 677 patacas (84.6 dollars), the figures indicated.

Furthermore, per-capita spending of tourists (overnight visitors) and same-day visitors in 2010 stood at 2,529 patacas ( 316.1 U.S. dollars) and 593 patacas (74.1 U.S. dollars) respectively, with visitors from Chinese mainland leading at 3,367 patacas (420 U.S. dollars) in per-capita spending of tourists and 828 patacas (103.5 U.S. dollars) in per-capita spending of same day visitors.

In 2010, per-capita non-shopping spending (excluding gaming expenses) of visitors amounted to 745 patacas (93.1 U.S. dollars), of which expenses on accommodation and food and beverage accounted for the largest share of 45 percent and 37 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, per-capita shopping spending amounted to 773 patacas (96.6 U.S. dollars), with expenses mainly on local food products (24 percent), jewellery and watches (21 percent) and clothing (19 percent).
