LED monitors to account for 50% of global LCD monitor market in 2011

Source :Digitimes          update : 2011-03-24

LED-backlit LCD monitors are expected to account for 50% of the global LCD monitor market in 2011, while Taiwan's LED-backlit monitor market is expected to account for over 60% of the overall market.

LCD monitor vendors indicated that Taiwan's LCD monitor market in 2010 reached 1.3-1.4 million units, and is expected to drop slightly to 1.2-1.3 million units in 2011 affected by the introduction of low-cost notebooks and tablet PCs. Furthermore, the price gap for LED-backlit and CCFL-backlit models continues to narrow, and vendors expect no difference in price in 2012.

The procurement market accounted for about 30% of the total LCD monitor demand in Taiwan in 2010.

For procurement orders for desktops, clients will request the same brand LCD monitor, which helped to boost shipments for Asustek Computer and Acer, and was the main reason Asustek ranked top in Taiwan's LCD monitor market in 2010.

Looking into 2011, due to delays in procurement projects from the Central Trust of China and new procurement projects coming out on May 1, and with LED-backlit and CCFL-backlit both existing in the market with various specifications for products, it became difficult for vendors to estimate the actual sales from procurement projects, and vendors now are actively in talks with the Central Trust of China, hoping to simplify specifications for the procurement orders.

Vendors believe that orders from the Central Trust of China will require the same brand monitor and desktop, and expect Asustek and Acer to continue to lead in the procurement market in 2011.
