Taiwan market: 22-inch LCD monitor replaces 19-inch as mainstream
Source :Digitimes update : 2011-03-22
With prices dropping to the sweet spot, 22-inch LCD monitors replaced 19-inch models as the mainstream in the Taiwan market in January-February, driven by promotions by such vendors as ViewSonic and Chimei. LED-backlit models accounted for almost 60% of the market.
LCD monitor shipments to the Taiwan market reached 200,000-220,000 units in January-February, but shipments in February dropped about 20% sequentially due to seasonality.
Price for a 19-inch widescreen monitor is now around NT$3,100 (US$104.84), and price for a 22-inch widescreen model is around NT$4,200. Despite the price gap, paying NT$1,100 more for a monitor 3-inch larger is a good enough bargain for consumers.
LED-backlit models' market share increased significantly starting in the third quarter of 2010, and with more LED-backlit models on the way, market sources expect the LED segment's share to exceed 70% in Taiwan in 2011, up from the current 60%.
