Mobile VoIP to Generate Revenues of over US$8 Billion in Latin America by 2014
Source :Cellular-News update : 2009-06-08
A report from Signals Telecom Consulting indicates that Brazil will continue to lead the VoIP market in Latin America, and will account for over 38% of total revenue for the region by 2014, driven by the adoption of wireless technologies, revenue from which will pass the US$1 billion mark in 2012. Mexico should reach this mark by 2013, while the Argentine market will do so in 2014.
VoIP services in the region are set to achieve a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of over 70% in the 2009-2014 period, and the markets of Argentina, Brazil and Mexico will account for 86% of the revenue from Wireless VoIP services.
Mobile 3G technologies will be the main drivers behind these services, particularly as from the increase in coverage by UMTS/HSPA services that will boost the flat-rate prepaid mobile broadband offer. One obstacle that must be overcome by WiMAX is the lack of scale in the case of terminals able to carry voice services. This situation could improve, at least in the case of operators using the 3.5GHz spectrum, when Clearwire in the United States launches mobile VoIP - targeted for 2010.
